More on BCR: A Place to Scare

BCR: A Place to Scare is a haunted house produced by BCR: A Place to Grow, a community center for children and adults with disabilities. 2019 marked BCR’s first foray into haunting, and plans are well underway for the haunt to continue in the future.

While BCR features fairly simple set design and props, its scares are executed to perfection, with committed performances from a small cast of actors. In their 2019 show, guests were taken through a surprisingly long experience that featured a disturbing hospital ward, a cannibal feast, a Day of the Dead-inspired dance sequence, and a trip through eerie catacombs. Upon completion of the maze, guests were given a goodie bag full of candy – a perk that surprisingly few haunts offer.

The haunt is very family-friendly, in keeping with BCR’s bright and positive role in the community. There are a few bloody props to be found, but nothing is too twisted or intense, and most of the scares are delivered with a genuine smile. It’s pure Halloween fun.

The 2019 show cost only $5, all of which went to benefit the center. As the newest haunt in town — one not covered by many of the larger outlets — the wait times are minimal. The staff are extremely welcoming and excited to be a part of the production. The space is also enormous, making BCR a very promising venue as the creative team finds its footing. BCR: A Place to Scare is a fun haunt for an excellent cause.

2020 and 2021 invites guests to experience Cursed Creek, in which audiences interact with a coven of witches through a series of vignettes. They are asked what they want and then what they would sacrifice to achieve it. Taking a far more introspective and theatrical approach, Cursed Creek was one of the most memorable experiences of the season.
