More on Cross Roads Escape Games

Cross Roads Escape Games is highly successful, critically acclaimed escape room company from founders Madison and Luke Rhoades. After falling in love with escape rooms together, they saw an opportunity to bring their own skills to the market, sharing a deep experience in theatrical set design and construction.

In 2016, Cross Roads burst onto the scene with The Hex Room, instantly heralded as a milestone for the developing art form. In it, players (ideally, exactly six of them) are assigned characters based on traditional horror movie stereotypes: The Detective, The Jock, The Nerd, The Virgin, The Prom Queen, and The Rebel. Each player is locked in their own small room, which they must escape before the group reconnects and escapes the larger chamber together (or, deviously, leave one or more friends behind). The Hex Room was a pioneer of what escape room lovers now call the “split start” mechanic, where a group is divided up to begin the room. Years later, The Hex Room remains a fixture on most Top 10 lists for SoCal escape games.

Their follow up, The Fun House, was unveiled without delay. Its bright colors and circus theme complement The Hex Room’s dark and grimy atmosphere, and serves as a lighter option for players who are new to escape rooms or are looking for a more traditional experience. Still, despite the lack of wild game mechanics, The Fun House is full of surprises and meta-jokes that are sure to delight and confuse even the most seasoned players.

In 2018, after several years worth of experimentation and effort, Cross Roads opened The Psych Ward, one of the most ambitious escape games ever conceived. A mixture of traditional escape room puzzles and social deception games like One Night a Werewolf or The Resistance, The Psych Ward pits friends against each other in a race to discover the secretly “insane” members of the group, who are working to sabotage “Team Sane.” A chaotic and unpredictable experience, The Psych Ward stands alone in the genre it created.

In 2019, Cross Roads announced “The Seance,” their first foray into immersive theater. In this hour long show, groups of up to 8 take part in a ritual aimed at a connection with the dead. Featuring intense, scary scenes, and dazzling high- and low-tech effects, The Seance is sure to attract attention and further blur the line between the haunt and escape room communities.
