More on Quietus Horror
Quietus Horror emerged in 2018, and was created out of a desire to introduce a completely new audience to immersive horror. Dissatisfied by the lack of horror experiences in Belgium, Quietus aims to show unexpecting guests the thrill and catharsis an intense scare experience can evoke – and that the genre can bring a lot more concept and art to the table than people might originally expect.
In 2018, Quietus produced FACSIMILE – an extreme experience for a single audience member. Guests were given an address, and were instructed to open the door and explore the house. Inside, they found a twisted mind, forced to repeat his violent obsessions, who proceeded to shape guests to his image. Three different versions were performed throughout the year, which saw multiple endings, variations on scenes, and guests being held after their show had concluded, playing a part in the next participant’s story. For a single guest, the show ended at a secondary location, where the creator of Quietus tried to exorcise his own obsessions in a violent, hallucinatory fever dream, only to wake up to a somber truth.
Next to that, Quietus wrote and co-produced INTÉRIEUR with UK’s Faceless Ventures. Guests underwent a procedure that made them fall into their own subconscious, meeting their demons. Two versions were performed that night. Small groups of three participants were able to enter into a general audience friendly version, which featured light contact and minimal extreme elements, as audience members were split up for individual scenes. Next to that, a limited director’s cut, ABYSSAL, was available for guests to fall deeper into their subconscious. This version featured heavy aggression and extreme elements, and was experienced completely alone.
In March and September 2019, Quietus produced Diabolus in Musica: OVERTURE. Guests were invited to experience a private concert, performed by an eccentric pianist, determined to make guests understand the story behind the sheet music. A 45-50 minute experience, experienced all alone, with high intensity scenes delving into an emotional story, performed in a minimalist setting. All music in this show was performed live, by three different musicians, with acoustic and electronic piano, viola, and percussion. The guests of the final night received an invitation for the “VIP Afterparty”, an hour-long group show in the middle of the night that featured live music and a variety of scenes exploring vices and obsession, both experienced alone and as a group.
