More on PIRATE'S CAVE HAUNT
Pirate’s Cave Haunt has been providing family-friendly scares to the city of Villa Park & Orange for 22 years now. It’s a labor of love headed up by the father and son team Dave & Jacob Larson, at our home in Orange County, CA. While Dave started the unofficial Pirate’s Cave Haunt in 1999, it didn’t take full form until his son, Jacob, began to help his dad to bring the experience to it’s current form.
For their 2020 season, Jacob worked to expand the narrative of the Pirate’s Cave haunt with Pirate’s Cave Origins, a 10-minute, fully narrated experience featuring water special effects, complex lighting, and numerous scare actors to engage with audiences and participants of the haunt.
In 2021, the story of the Pirate’s Cave Haunt continued as Larson and Son Mining Co invited you to take a tour of underground sea caves, 450-feet below ground. Here, you explores the rumors of hidden treasure and creature lurking in the shadows, all centered around an ancient pirate curse. Featuring fantastic special effects from a rickety, aged elevator and sophisticated timing, this only continues to showcase the expertise and prowess of the Pirate’s Cave team.
Pirate’s Cave Haunt is a free non-profit event, made possible by donations from our guests and sponsors. As a way to thank our donors, they implemented Express Queue in 2021. This service is a one time use front of the line pass for their experience.
For those families with kids that are too young for the Pirate’s Cave scares, they open up the cave for a “Kids Candy Hunt.” during the last two weekends of October from 5-6pm in 2021. Families can tour the Pirate’s Cave Haunt with the lights on and no monsters in sight. Kids can also search the mine for 3 candy stations throughout the haunt if they are brave enough!
In 2022, Pirate’s Cave teamed up with Dark Harvest (The Fleshyard) to create Shady Pines Asylum haunt. We are curious to see what the future holds for them.
