Twisted Dreams 2023 is a haunted house themed to perfection with grindhouse meets Texas chainsaw massacre. Located in Buena Park, this home haunt offers guests the closest thing to entering a backcountry teeming with cannibals, man-sized babies, and the deranged. This haunt is Ed Gein’s dream and has enough flesh on its walls to make suits for a wedding party. This is a must see for anyone in Southern California.

This year, Twisted Dreams 2023 presents The Slaughterhouse. This five-minute linear walkthrough experience invites guest through the side yard, backyard, and opposite side yard of a residential home in Orange County. Despite taking place outside, the ceilings and walls encase guests in fog drenched in an ominous orange glow, a dilapidated home of one of the cannibals, the kitchen where a masked woman cooks with an ample supply of heads, arms, and flesh, the bedroom of a man-child complete with diaper demanding guests play with him, and a butcher that resembles Leatherface, complete with chainsaw, ready to chase guests out. It’s far longer than you’d expect from a home haunt, and each scene builds upon the theming set at the start, crafting scenes that immerse audiences in this world expertly.

The narrative of Twisted Dreams 2023 is clear: this is a home is hungry for human meat and you wandered into the wrong house—now you’re on the menu. The scare-actors all serve to fill out this world and add to the depravity. Each and every actors exudes a powerful energy. Namely, the chainsaw wielding maniac was a favorite in our group, as he lumbers towards us, swinging his chainsaw. I felt, for the first thing in a long time, that he wanted to kill me. And I ran. I ran straight down the path to the exit.

In terms of set design for Twisted Dreams 2023, all scenes just feel dirty—in the best way possible—as if the bones and skin are real. This isn’t like Knott’s where everything feels manufactured and a facsimile. No, from the bone chandelier to the flesh suits to the vats of meat, everything resembles the real thing. If you are squeamish to this kind of thing, you may want to avoid Twisted Dreams 2023.

Twisted Dreams is a favorite each and every Halloween season and The Slaughterhouse is no different. It’s an exceptional addition to their ever-growing mythos and furthers their level of realism, their depravity, and the nightmare world they have crafted since their inception. We are so glad they were able to produce the The Slaughterhouse in such a short amount of time—but it’s one of their best, and left us running, as fast as we can, and only ordering vegetarian for dinner.
