On December 1, 2018, the team behind the summer Halloween convention Midsummer Scream hosted their first holiday pop-up event at Sweet! Hollywood. Seasons Screamings featured a carefully selected list of artists from Midsummer Scream, an appearance by Cassandra Peterson (the iconic Elvira), photo ops with Krampus and Danielle Bradford as Santa Elvira, and even a few rebellious elves (and a few stirring creatures) who snuck away during their busy season have some fun wreaking havoc with the vendors.
The event ran in conjunction with the Terrifying Treats: Candy Bar Art Show, which featured horror and Halloween themed box artwork and custom candy bars created by local artists, many of them vending. Between the two concurrent events, there were plenty of stocking stuffers and gore-met treats for everyone in attendance.
Sweet! Hollywood provided a playful background for the vendors, a pleasant change from Midsummer Scream’s typical venue, the Long Beach Convention Center. For Seasons Screamings, tables were spread throughout the sprawling store, making it easy to browse the work from the artists, as well as the store’s wide selection of sweets and candy-related merchandise.
Some of the standout artists included:
Abby Belle’s charming paper-clay sculptures
Drew Rausch’s macabre comics, art, and hand-carved frames
Miss Havisham’s Curiosities’ snarky teacups and saucers
Working Class Punx’s spooky stockings and bags
Poltergeists & Paramours’ beautiful handmade lingerie
Sugar Fueled’s spooky-cute prints, paintings, and comics
Skelly Paper Company’s wrapping paper, bows, and cards
There were plenty of fans in attendance, and it was a fun, energetic atmosphere, similar to the vendor room at Midsummer Scream. Seasons Screamings was a great way to kick off the holiday shopping season, since all I want for Christmas is another night of Halloween!
