My Thank You Letter to the Community

Welcome to the Haunting Community!

First off, thank you for coming this far. Thank you for looking at the site, for finding it, for staying, and for reading this post. This means the world to me.

So now that you’re here, you might be asking–what exactly is Haunting? Well in essence, it’s my love letter back to a community that means so much to me. It’s my way to promote, praise, and give constructive criticism back to the immersive theater events that I love so much. But even more so, it’s my way to give back to the community that I feel so connected with. When I started out in this community, I didn’t know the difference between Blackout and Alone, and I definitely had not heard of Heretic! I had no idea where to start and missed out on some great shows because of that. I also didn’t know anyone in this community, but as I met people and made friends, I learned so much. Therefore, I want Haunting to connect a community together and promote the art we love. I’m setting three goals with this site, and hopefully together, we can make these happen:

  1. I want this to be a hub in which a community can form within. For this goal, I created a Slack Forum for people to join (if there’s only one thing you do on this, please comment below with your email and I’ll invite you!). This can serve a multitude of purposes. First, it can connect people wanting to go to an event. Say you want to go to Blackout in LA but are too scared to go alone, then post in the slack on the Blackout channel and maybe someone will join you! Or if you want to go to Blackout in San Francisco during Halloween, then post in the Slack and coordinate a carpool up there! Second, I want this to be a place for people to discuss their thoughts about these experiences with like-minded individuals. When you get back from an experience, join the channel for the event and begin talking and sharing stories with others who did the same event. It can be really cathartic. So join the Slack and invite your friends, or make new friends. Let’s make this a warm, welcoming, and fun community.
  2. I want to sponsor an immersive theater show. I want to give money to one of my favorite events. Yes, you heard me right, I want to give money to an immersive theater event. And I want to keep doing it if this works well. All I want in exchange is that I can create some exclusive content back to Haunting’s readers. This way, those who stick with me are rewarded, and the immersive experience makes a profit. I don’t want to know any secrets, I don’t want to be a producer, and I don’t want to be on the team. I just want to give back and grow a community here and give them some cool immersive experiences in the process.
  3. I want to expose people to things they’ve never heard of, but would be interested in. Often, I tell my friends of some of the shows I’ve gone to and they have no idea that they even existed–and these friends are in the immersive theater community. I’d love to introduce people to new shows. And I promise to keep the content on this site focused. Haunting will only post relevant and interesting topics. So follow along, I promise not to blow up your feed with posts!

With that said, please comment below with your email so I can invite you to the Slack, like us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, and feel free to say hi to me! I’m already in talks with two theater groups to create some exclusive content–so you may want to get in early!

Thanks for joining me in this journey.

PS. With the name Haunting, I wanted it to describe an experience that sticks with you far after it is over. I don’t mean this to just be horror (although there will be some). But there will be plenty of non-horror performances in scope of this publication!
