Rows and rows of alcohol line the shelves above the bar. But it’s not those spirits that are talking to me. A spectral image of a woman is projected onto a wall, as she pleads to us, to find her body and give her peace. As she finishes her ask, I hear a click, and the entire bar slides to the left. I grab it, pulling it open, revealing a massive cave, descending down, down, down. I follow the lantern light towards screams echoing from deep within. Ferris Home Haunt has created an impressive Western Façade in front of their Garden Grove home.

Ferris Home Haunt is a Western-themed walkthrough Home Haunt that focuses on its narrative and passion from its actors. Truly a father and son effort, this haunted house can last between six and ten minutes, with a majority of the experience coming from the narrative voice-over in the first room—and most scares coming from Liam’s son Oliver who runs from scene to scene, screaming his heart out to frighten all guests.

Ferris Home Haunt tells the story of a fortune teller who comes to town, and the fear that spreads across that town. When she is killed and thrown into the mine shafts below the town, she has now come back, to ask travelers such as yourself to set her soul free. Thus, the experience leads you through the local saloon, the caves in which the witch perished in, and ultimately the cemetery that gives her peace. It’s a strong narrative that gives weight to the scares and the scenes, allowing for more audience investment.

The immersive elements work well too. The hidden cave door behind the bar is a wonderful surprise—and even just approaching Ferris Haunt from the street showcases their quality to any passerby via the beautiful Western Saloon façade built over the family home. Fog billows out from the cemetery, and the lighting reflects off the fog, creating an otherworldly effect. It’s easy to see the talent in the creative efforts of this team.

While Liam welcomes guests to Ferris Home Haunt, the true acting talent comes from Liam’s son Oliver. As mentioned above, he runs with youthful energy, hiding behind walls, behind cemetery tombstones, and in the darkness of the cave. He screams with pure joy and it’s easy to see how much he loves getting a reaction from a scared audience.

Ferris Home Haunt is a passion project of father and son that combines impressive facades, clever set design, and professional lighting and sound with the passionate scare acting of a young boy who loves what he does. Ferris Home Haunt is also a home haunt that pushes the boundaries of this genre, creating an immersive experience with moving doors and strong narratives. We will definitely be returning to Ferris Haunt in future years because this haunt was fantastic—and holds so much potential.
