Most Haunting Scenes Involving Horses In Scary Movies

Horror movie directors are on the constant search for new horrifying scenes introducing new elements to the movies just to make them even more spooky and at the same time entertaining for the viewers.

Animals have always played an important part in horror movies. However, in most horror movies we see the presence of wolves, dogs, and not so much of horses. Many people adore horses, whether they are engaging in Preakness Stakes betting or they just enjoy riding or watching people riding.

However, some horror movies managed to sneak through under everyone’s radar and included horses in horrific scenes that will give you the creeps. With that said, let’s highlight some of the scariest scenes involving horses in horror movies.

Sleepy Hollow

Since Johnny Depp is at the center of attention at the moment with Amber Heard, it is time to reflect on some of his amazing work as an actor. Sleepy Hollow is a spooky horror movie that takes place in the 18th century when a New York police constable is sent to investigate shocking murders and disappearances in the Dutch hamlet of Sleepy Hollows.

The policeman tries to get to the bottom of these heinous crimes and quickly finds out that some of the locals have seen a headless mercenary who rides a big black horse. Most people think that he is searching for his missing head.

There were a couple of scenes when we saw the horse and its galloping and the sound of the breath sounds like death itself. If you like horror mysteries, as well as horses then this is the perfect movie for you.

The Cell

The Cell is a psychological thriller, but don’t get fooled, there are still some scary and disgusting elements, especially the horse scene. With Jennifer Lopez playing Catherine (the main actor) she really lifts up the movie and the incredible acting makes it great to watch.

But we are here to talk about horror scenes of horses. Well, The Cell has a horse bloody scene that will test anyone’s stomach.

Catherine tries to talk to a boy who is frightened and walks back. She encounters a horse and starts petting it while the young Carl cowers in fear against the wall. At one moment, panels of glass start to fall down and the horse gets cut up into layered pieces. It is the most detailed and graphic horse scene we’ve seen so far.

The Ring

If you are a fan of horror movies then you’ve definitely already watched this classic horror movie based on Koji Suzuki’s 91’ novel. Here we have a more haunted scene that involves a horse that is being transported in a trailer on a ferry.

As the ferry approaches a haunted place, the horse is the first one to get disturbed pulling his ropes and managing to kick the door open and break free. The frightened horse runs across the deck and nobody can stop it.

The horse then manages to jump over Rachel’s head and into the icy water below where it drowns. This is an incredible scene and one of the first that involved a possessed horse.

The Walking Dead

Here we have the most popular zombie apocalypse TV series of all time with quite a memorable entry scene that will draw people in for a TV series marathon. Since we are talking about a zombie movie, we cannot expect psychological horror, as the movie is focused on some graphic bloody scenes that are hard to forget.

It all starts with the first episode of the series when the main actor Rick Grimes comes to town on a horse. He quickly realizes that there are no living creatures in the town as he gets attacked by many zombies.

Of course, he manages to get away, but the horse suffered the consequence. Zombies got to the horse and ate the animal. It is one of the most graphic scenes we’ve seen in horror movies involving horses that will test your stomach.
