10 Great Movement Shooters to Get Your Blood Pumping

If you like speedy, fast action then this article is for you. Movement shooters (sometimes called mobility shooters) have been a beloved part of the FPS genre for decades, with their origins in games like Doom and Quake. While the genre isn’t quite as popular as it once was, overtaken by hardcore shooters, Battle Royales and more, it still has a place in our hearts. Not only that, but lots of indie developers are in love with the genre’s unique take on action and FPS gameplay.

So, let’s run down 10 movement shooters you can play today.

1. Titanfall 2

If you’re a fan of newer movement shooters, chances are you’ve already played Titanfall 2. Blending agile parkour movement with mech-based combat, Titanfall 2 builds on the original game to provide players with even more energising FPS thrills. It features great single-player and multi-player modes.

2. Bulletstorm

This one might be a little bit old now, but it’s still good at delivering all those movement shooter thrills. Released by Epic Games, People Can Fly and Psyonix this 2011 shooter quite literally encourages you to go crazy with its systems; rewarding players with “skillpoints” based on their ability to get creative with tearing apart its hordes of enemies. Think of Gears of War at a lightning pace, but as an FPS, and you’ve kind of got the vibe of this one.

3. Halo 5: Guardians

While the most recent Halo title didn’t receive the acclaim of many of the previous instalments, leading to a lacklustre reception and player base, Halo 5 still has a dedicated fan base keeping its multiplayer modes alive and well. Halo has always delivered a style of movement shooter—focusing on fast, low gravity and vehicular gameplay. But Guardians turned that up with a whole host of new abilities and more.

4. Apex Legends

One of the most beloved Battle Royale games out there, Apex Legends takes the methodical and tense nature of the genre and cranks it up to eleven by foregrounding speedy and stylish movement alongside its top-notch gunplay. If you’ve played any battle royales you’ll know what to expect in this game’s last man standing deathmatch, but trust us when we say Apex is the Battle Royale for movement shooter fans. If you wanna get ahead in Apex, you can buy Apex boosting.

5. Warframe

A huge action MMO where you can fight, build, collect and quest your way through hundreds of hours of gameplay. Warframe somehow manages to also pack movement shooter features into its impressive sci-fi chasse (or should I say frame?). This title is addictive and long form—making it perfect for movement shooter lovers.

6. Neon White

Looking towards the Indie Market, Neon White was a recent indie darling for a number of reasons. If you manage to look beyond its cringe-worthy narrative and visual novel segments, the game is a very impressive time-trial focused movement shooter. Placing you in arenas where you deploy a variety of abilities as you race around trying to do away with a host of monsters. It’s a blast!

7. Post Void

If Neon White looked hectic, think again. Post Void takes the feeling of movement shooters and embeds it into every inch of its being. Punky music, heavily stylised 2d sprites and twitchy, lightning fast combat make this game an absolute must for movement shooter fans. Plus, its roguelike features make this one repayable time and again.

8. ULTRAKILL

Somewhere between the last two entries you’ll find ULTRAKILL. A bloody, pacey and downright crazy shooter. You find yourself as a robot in a world where blood is your fuel and you’re slowly fighting your way into hell. The narrative may make little sense beyond a colourful setup but oh boy the action is going to keep your eyes gaping as to not miss a shot.

9. Doom (2016)

Did we say hell? Well, Doom is the hell shooter. But you already know that. If you’re a movement shooter fan and you haven’t played the 2016 reboot of doom you’re in for a serious treat. Mixing incredible graphics with well oiled controls and a bunch of systems to keep the action going, Doom takes everything that made the original games so legendary and ports them into the modern day. Oh, and Doom Eternal is not bad either!

10. Vanquish

Made by Platinum Games, those maniacs behind Bayonetta, Vanquish is a game which people never shut up about it—that is, if they’ve played it. Despite widespread release, it remains quite niche beyond those who were gaming enthusiasts back in 2010. To get you hooked you just need to look at its box art which features the game’s signature move: sliding across the floor at breakneck speed while firing an insane rifle. So, yeah, I think you understand.

It’s time to get shooting, so what are you waiting for?
