More on Twisted Mind Productions
Twisted Minds Productions, a young haunting team composed of Zion Fenwick, David Coleman, and Alexis Chomyn, is a traditional haunt with a singular goal. “Every year we try our best to scare the living hell out of you,” says the company’s Facebook page “by creating original environments to fully immerse you in a lifelike horror experience.” As a relatively new company run by young creators, Twisted Minds has made the wise decision to stay true to the form and give audiences exactly what they came for.
The creators have been steadily building a following by getting involved in the larger haunt community, with well-received teaser experiences at Midsummer Scream’s Hall of Shadows. Past productions, going back to their debut in 2017, include Clowns, Anneliese: The Experience, and even a Christmas show entitled Santa’s Workshop: Toys’ Revenge.
Their haunted mazes, which have taken place at a variety of locations, are fairly traditional and stick to classic horror themes and tropes. Their material is sometimes comically disturbing, like the memorable and effective “Cat Room” from their appearance at Midsummer Scream 2019 (animal lovers be warned!). Scare actors attack from all sides, and the lack of high-tech effects is made up for with clever performance tricks and old-school scare techniques. The set design is scrappy but effective, with bombastic light and sound cues to accompany some of the more intense moments.
Because the haunt does not have a permanent location, it is difficult to make recommendations regarding parking, disability access, or general trip planning. However the group is very active on social media and likely accessible for any questions or concerns. Their Youtube channel features charming videos of their production process, a wonderful resource for new haunters. Ticket prices have historically been very low, with past performances typically hovering around $5, making it an easy way to support the local scene and the next generation of haunters.
Expect to see the work of Twisted Minds grow quickly in quality and size as the creators rack up experience and make connections in the Los Angeles haunt community. As one of the few haunts in the immediate area, Twisted Minds is an easy recommendation, offering great value and excellent scares.
