Top 5 Nostalgic Horror Games for this Halloween
It’s a fun time of the year, but Halloween isn’t all about Trick or Treat. To fully embrace the festival, you can decorate the house, place carved pumpkins outside, and play some traditional games.
The horror genre is embraced by gamers around the world. It doesn’t have to be a special time of year to play them, but Halloween offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of these titles.
Casino Slots
It’s not an obvious choice, but online slot machines carry a number of different themes and horror is one of the most popular. The games reference some of the classic characters in this genre including Count Dracula, Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. A full range of horror-themed slots can be found at sites such as Jackpota and they attract great interest in the weeks leading up to Halloween. They may well be promoted on the slots page or, alternatively, you can find them by entering some terms in the search bar.
All slots work a little differently: Some will have bonus rounds to aim for while others are less complex. There’s a good range within this theme, and each of them will offer a great spooky backdrop to Halloween.
Alan Wake 2
Horror themed titles are a popular area for video gamers. There are many options to choose from, but the Alan Wake series ranks highly in reviews of this genre.
The second edition is a survivalist game where one player takes on the role of the central character. It can be played solo, or others can join in to become the forces of evil.
Alan Wake 2 earns high praise as it is a tense game that combines all the essential elements of classic horror. It also requires high levels of strategy among its players, and it’s therefore a great all-rounder for your Halloween play list.
Last Friday
Horror themes have yet to make it into the mainstream as far as board games are concerned, Casual consumers may not be aware of it, but there is actually a huge choice within this genre.
Among the many options, Last Friday is one of the most popular. The gameplay is based on the slasher class of horror movies, and this is a complex title where players must survive a weekend of fear and jeopardy.
Last Friday is a game for two to six players. It’s the job of one competitor to take on the role of the killer, while the others attempt to evade danger. While the word ‘fun’ isn’t often attached to the horror theme, there’s plenty of entertainment to be had from this detailed and lengthy board game.
Halloween Hide and Seek
There aren’t any classic parlor games that directly involve horror, but you can still be creative. As a take on regular hide and seek, the seeker dresses up in scary Halloween costumes and builds up the tension while they hunt down their quarry.
Turn out all the lights, put on a Scream mask or something even more sinister, and you can turn an innocent game into something that is far more terrifying.
Alien: Isolation
As part of the film franchise, this video game is rated as one of the most terrifying of all horror themed titles. Alien: Isolation can build some serious tension as the player is hunted down by the creature.
Like all great horror games, Alien: Isolation has brilliant sound and graphics which help add to the tense atmosphere. It’s also available on more devices than many titles in this genre, and that extra accessibility makes it even more popular.
If you’re not the biggest fan of getting out and socializing on Halloween, this could be your best pick. Alien: Isolation works well as a single player game, so it’s ideal if you want to stay home, but still enjoy some spooky fun.
All of these games are perfect accompaniments to your Halloween, but why wait until October 31st to play them? Enjoying each title in the build up to the big day can help to enhance the suspense.
