The Best Horror Movies, TV Games, and Books to Look Forward to this Year

When it comes to horror entertainment or, to use a slightly controversial term, ‘content,’ we’ve probably never had it better. Even if you are not a fan of modern horror offerings, the web gives you instant access to classic movies, games, TV shows, and digital books whenever you want.

2024 was a decent year for horror. The most-anticipated horror film of the year, Nosferatu, seems to have caught fire at the box office, and most critics are pleased that it, at the very least, does not tarnish the legacy of the beloved original. Stephen King continued to show he was the master of the genre with You Like It Darker, a collection of short stories that won multiple awards. Gaming, too, continued to show its ability to tantalize horror fans with the brilliant Silent Hill II Remake.

What does 2025 have in store? Let’s dive in:

2025 Horror Movies

Yes, horror movies have gone the same way as the rest of Hollywood with an endless string of reboots and sequels, but there are some gems within the melange of releases this year. Frankenstein has been put in the safe and interesting hands of Guillermo Del Toro. We are also intrigued to see what Danny Boyle has in store with 28 Years Later. A Stephen King short story will be adapted for The Monkey, with a February release stated. As for sequel fodder, there is at least a chance that the sequels to M3GAN, The Black Phone, and The Conjuring will do something interesting.

2025 Horror Television

Does Stranger Things count as horror? Perhaps. Nonetheless, the 80s-nostalgia-heavy Netflix series has wrapped production and will arrive on streaming later in the year. Possibly the most-anticipated show will be IT: Welcome to Derry; yes, Stephen King again. Maybe the most intriguing release will be The Bondsman, with Amazon Prime securing the services of Kevin Bacon to play the role of a resurrected bounty hunter. And yes, there’s more Stephen King, with a television adaption of Carrie.

2025 Horror Games

We touched on the fact above that the gaming world delivers some of the best horror entertainment around, ranging from big-budget console games to easy-to-play horror and Halloween-themed slots. Big things are expected from Reanimal, Bye Sweet Carole, Dark Fracture, Tenebris Somnia, and Dying Light: The Beast. This is just scratching the surface, however. There’ll be dozens and dozens of excellent horror games coming this year.

2025 Horror Books

As you might expect from horror books, a lot of the buzz surrounds the most prolific novelists. These include Grady Hendrix, who will release Witchcraft for Wayward Girls soon, and Stephen Graham Jones, who is expected to continue his hot streak of hits with The Buffalo Hunter Hunter. There’s some brilliant new works from Latin American writers Agustina Bazterrica and Silvia Moreno-Garcia, who will release The Unworthy and The Bewitching respectively. And the grapevine is buzzing with optimism for works from debut novelist Lucy Rose with The Lamb and Neena Viel’s Listen to Your Sister.
