SpectreVision Brings Transference VR Demo to Fantastic Fest

Festival goers at this year’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX were treated to quite an exciting experience with SpectreVision‘s TRANSFERENCE VR Demo. The thrilling virtual reality game was a collaboration between the film production company and video game partner Ubisoft.

Haunting had the opportunity to sit down with Daniel Noah (Partner/Dir. of Development, SpectreVision) and Kyle McCullough (VP of Digital, SpectreVision) to have them explain the impetus for this partnership as well as tease the story line of the forthcoming game.

As described in the above interview, TRANSFERENCE is “a psychological thriller that… explores the concepts of consciousness and technology.” While only a demo is currently available, what we do know is that the narrative focuses on a neuroscientist that developed a new technology in which the consciousness of memory is uploaded into a virtual space. You, as the player, can enter these memories and try to decode them to understand the emotional states and psyches of the person whose mind you are entering. These memories are nonlinear and fully experiential. However, as they describe, “the story of TRANSFERENCE is best experienced in game.”

This experience is one that leverages the immersive qualities of cinema and the active qualities of gaming to great effect. Blending both narrative and puzzle elements quite seamlessly, the demo felt at times like an escape room and at times like a suspenseful film. We won’t spoil anything else but suffice it to say, we highly recommend you check out this game once it releases.

TRANSFERENCE VR will release in Spring of 2018 on PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift, as well as Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

SpectreVision is an American film production company founded in 2010 by actor Elijah Wood and directors Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller. Formerly known as The Woodshed, the company was re-branded in 2013 as SpectreVision, a genre-driven production company focusing primarily on horror films. TRANSFERENCE was first announced at 2017’s E3 Conference.
