I’m the first person walking through Michael Myers’ house this evening, and I regret it completely. I turn the corner to find a woman slaughtered on the bed in front of me. As I look down at her, Myers appears behind me. He moves so silently and so quickly that I give a panicked yelp and head for the hallway at the other end of the room – only to find Myers bearing down on me from that direction as well. Pumkin Jacks Haunted House is an incredible home haunt located in Santa Clarita. Created by mechanical contractor Bond Landeen, this 600 square foot haunt transforms Landeen’s garage into a truly terrifying homage to Michael Myers and the Halloween franchise.

The level of detail in this maze is astonishing. The entire outside of the garage is transformed into the façade of Myers’ movie home, and the small audience groups of 2-4 people enter through the front door directly into that residence. The impeccable set design and construction of each room makes it very easy to forget that the path leads through such a small location. Every attempt has been made to replicate the sets and tone from the movie and Pumkin Jacks delivers on those attempts at every turn.

But the reason people come to a haunt is to get scared, and the length of the line by the time Pumkin Jacks opens suggests that this haunt succeeds in doing so. It’s full of jump-scares from every direction and a cast of actors that all seem 8 feet tall as they torment visitors as Myers. There are so many versions of Myers roaming the attraction that it becomes legitimately terrifying as the killer appears from behind doors and around corners and walking directly at guests from down a hallway. It’s unnerving and utterly brilliant to put all the scare-actors in one costume. It gives participants the sense that Myers is unstoppable and everywhere, which is the same way he feels in the movies.

Pumkin Jacks Haunted House tops the list of Santa Clarita’s home haunts. For a decade it’s been scaring audiences and there’s good reason. Pumkin Jacks combines brilliant set design with a strong theme and a cast that really understands how to scare people. Every piece of this haunt works perfectly together to create one of the best homages ever made to Halloween and horror. The cast and crew are so good that their names are listed in credits outside the haunt. They absolutely should be because Pumkin Jacks Haunted House is far more than just decorations in a garage. It’s a fully immersive set where you are the star. All you have to do is scream.

Pumkin Jacks Haunted House has finished its run for this year and may transition to an actual professional haunt next year instead of being held in a garage.
