Welcome Foolish Mortals

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Welcome foolish Mortals Lake Balboa CA

The “Welcome Foolish Mortals” yard display draws guests in with cascading strong lights and a classic marquees sign bearing the haunt name. Once you explore the yard, you’ll find rainbow tombstones with witty and lyrical epitaphs, strange portraits, and haunted mansion figures lit up lit by oscillating lights. This yard display pays homage to Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, including three hitchhiking ghosts and a stretching painting. It is equal parts spooky and aesthetic, with plenty of lights, colors, and whimsical caricatures.

Spooky Hollows

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Spooky Hollows Van Nuys CA

By Pamela Van Hill: Spooky Hollow located in Van Nuys went all out this year with their massive 10 minute show and projectors. Follow the story of Mr. Sticky and the missing people as he comes out to play. This show features 3 projectors, a lake, several animatronics and runs every few minutes. Social distancing and masks are required here with well placed numbers on the ground. I suggest you watch the show a couple times to not miss anything as there are several effects such as a light up talking bird and a radio that speaks during the show that may be harder to follow in some areas. The story of Mr. Sticky returning for Halloween is very family friendly and safe and smaller children shouldn’t find it too scary as it mixes humor and the story in a way that even the younger ones can follow.  Come join the servants of Mr. Sticky and enjoy this adorable yard show.

Community Creep at Sinman Manor

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Community Creep at Sinman Manor Northridge CA

Community Creep at Sinman Manor is one of the most festive and interactive yard displays we encountered. Thematic classic rock tunes from bad moon rising to devil went down to Georgia, accompanied by video footage of animated skeletons, candles and lights flickering to the beat. A for sale sign offers the house at an unbeatable price: “no price too low, call 666-6666”. Once you step into the center of the display and clap loudly, the set comes alive, skeleton eyes lightening up as they screech at you. Projected ghosts fly up above the house, bats flutter nearby, stars twinkle on the trees, and kitsch abounds, including a skeletal, inflatable zombie pony. This one is high energy and tons of fun, as demonstrated by the crowd gathering outside even on a Wednesday.

Rosehill Haunt

By Pamela Van Hill: Another classic, Rosehill Haunt returns with their cemetery in  Studio City. This is a beautiful yard display complete with skeletons, catchy music and a very detailed cemetery. This display is so bold and bright it can be seen all the way from the street and is very eye catching and creative. Stop and look at the Jack of Lantern trees and read the names and creative things written on the tombstones as you view this massive display. The backdrop features a stunning projector of skeletons dancing in their cemetery home and is definitely not one to be missed.

The Rock-n-Roll Halloween House of Toluca Lake & Quarantine

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Highway to Hell Toluca Lake CA

The Rock-n-Roll Halloween House of Toluca Lake uses unique lighting and a skeletal rock band to remind us that rock and roll will never die. Featuring keyboards, amps, a threatening skeletal guard dog and a very dapper looking skeletal motorcyclist, this yard display is a punk rock dream. The yard next door is full of skeletal dogs, horses and other monstrous denizens who are quarantining while playing twister, masks and all. This is definitely a block worth checking out.

Rotting Hill Cemetery

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Rotting Hill Cemetery North Hollywood CA

Rotting hill cemetery greets you with haunting organ music and rolling fog. The cemetery’s statuary citizens chime in with a variety of dark puns and jokes while lightning flashes in the background. Flickering candles light up an altar, on top of which a coffin shakes violently. It seems as if at least one inhabitant of the cemetery is not resting peacefully. The display is technically advanced and well put together with projections on the walls and tombstones and ominous flashing lights. This display sets itself apart by including a soundtrack and dialogue. Various voice actors tell the hilarious stories of the demise of the cemetery’s inhabitants. As the ghosts tell it, this is the cemetery everyone is dying to get into.

Clybourn Manor

Clybourn Manor’s pirate themed haunt features nearly 20 skeletal inhabitants engaged in a variety of festive and mischievous activities. All aspects of pirate lore are represented: from rowboats to sea monsters to gold treasure. The skeletal crew can be seen climbing up half sunken ships or captaining their vessels with an eerie grin. There’s even a skeletal mermaid lounging around with the sea monsters and a skeletal hangman who met his end in a tree adorned with pirate flags and thematic weaponry. Trees and sails are beautifully and delicately lit , and a sand beach hosts bottles for messages and a “ye pirates beware” sign. Animatronic pirates hold flickering lanterns or play musical instruments, giving the display a lot of character.. The display is ominous, revelric, and fully populated with skeletal inhabitants. Stop by on the weekends for the full show.

Holiday Fantasies Come To Life

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Holiday Fantasies Come To Life Burbank CA

Holiday Fantasies Come To Life is by far the most elaborate yard display we saw in LA. The display is themed around Disney favorites and a live actor sorcerer from Fantasia conducts skeletal brooms while apprentice mickey’s sword shoots magical light into Maleficent’s smoking dragon. The music picks up in tempo as various zombies and monsters come to life. Cruella DeVille stands with bright eyed dalmatians near a magic well. The Jungle Book section features blacklit tikis and spiders and purple string lights surround the little mermaid section, where Ursula stands triumphantly over a skeletal mermaid. The backdrop is the magic castle adorned with spider webs, lights flashing in cathedral windows with gargoyles skulking nearby and the Snow White witch cackling in the window. This yard display takes beloved Disney lore and casts a Halloween spell on it, delivering haunted versions of well known favorites to the delight of a large crowd. There’s something for everyone from the haunted mansion to the tiki room, to the little mermaid.

Corky’s Discount Pest Control

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Corkys Discount Pest Control Burbank CA

Corky’s discount pest control is a post apocalyptic horror scene full of electric fences and strange, fluttering creatures. The only sound is a permeating buzzing noise and a strange alar, and massive oversized bees circle the roof of the house. A few skeletons can be seen hanging from webs or in various stages of being consumed by the rogue creatures. A deeper look reveals the remnants of fumigation tools hiding in the shadows. Industrial and deeply creepy, the display delivers on the very specific theme of pest control gone awry.

Rotten Apple 907

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Rotten Apple 907 Burbank CA

By Pamela Van Hill: Rotten Apple is a popular classic found every year in Burbank. While Covid still strikes down California, they have taken their usually very popular walk through display and have made it a yard show based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion. Featuring the crystal ball, singing heads, and many pumpkins showcased beautifully, this yard show features a real dancing bride and many disney classics from Haunted Mansion to give you that family friendly but fun spooky feel. This was the most popular attraction and while they are doing everything that can with Covid and to maintain distancing, if it worries you, I would give yourself some extra time as this one can take awhile to get good photos. Show run time is about 5 minutes and features a fun little surprise at the end.

Circus of Nightmares

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Circus of Nightmares Burbank CA

Circus of Nightmares is a high production circus themed animated yard display with extra scares and a drive through radio show on Friday and Saturday nights. Tuning into the station will treat attendees to classic 50s barbershop pop. Circus clowns swing maniacally from the trees, pop out of human sized jack in the boxes, or offer free candy in exchange for your soul. A big top circus tent with flashing lights serves as the backdrop to this display, and blood spattered palettes, hay bales, and rusted toys peak out from the fog. From across the street, the circus marquee hangs brightly over the entire scene. The animatronic characters here will taunt you and jump out at you when you least expect it. The clown theme continues in a more subdued display acrosss the street, with balloons projected against the outside of the house while shadowy clowns with large teeth skull in the yard.

North Cordova St

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor North Cordova St Burbank CA

North Cordova St has a charming yard display with a giant werewolf, strange masks hiding in the bushes, and tombstones bearing morbid puns. Pumpkin decorations abound in this lighthearted but well executed scene. This display features a skeleton laying on the floor, zooming on an iPad amidst punny gravestones such as “Ben Better” “Perry Noid”, and “Dee Parted”. The scene also contains Trick or treating kids, and witches gathering around a cauldron.

Castletymo

Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Castletymo Origins Haunting Drive By Show Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Decorations

Castletymo is a drive by display with a couple of mannequins perched in an apartment window. One window contains a red eyes werewolf and a skeleton in ritual garb. The other features an undead bride and her skeletal mother perched among skulls, wardrobes, and candelabra as if getting ready for a wedding amidst spider webs. While this one lacks the expensiveness of a yard display, it’s nice to see an apartment window getting into the Halloween spirit.

Pierdell Fantasmagoria

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Pierdell Fantasmagoria North Hollywood CA

By Pamela Van Hill: Pierdell Fantasmagoria is found in North Hollywood. Featuring a greeter and crypt taker and a huge holographic screen. This is a simple yet effective yard display that shouldn’t be missed featuring several props that interact and speak to the guests. It can be hard to hear what each prop is saying so make sure you’re walking along the fence posts so you don’t miss any of the cool effects . My favorite is the light up cryptic baby greeter you meet at the front gate.

Rise of the Dead

By Pamela Van Hill: Rise of the Dead is found in Glendale and features a headless horseman, singing pumpkins and an adorable tale of selfish children taking everything they can while trick or treating. As another stunning yard display there is a lot to walk around and see here and the paths leading up to the different props are all open. Stop by and see the women in the coffin or the tall lit up skeleton guarding the door. Very family friendly and with lot’s to see and do, Rise of the Dead is a great place to take the entire family.

Three pumpkins, similar to Curse of the Raven, with projected faces tell stories, including Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven. Inflatables showcase A Nightmare Before Christmas characters like Oogie Boogie and Lock Shock and Barrel as well as a grim reaper on a motorcycle.  A group of three witches stand over a bubbling cauldron, cloaked in a red light. A projection of two little girls walk towards participants as a skeleton soaks in a bubble bath. And all the bushes contain illuminated eyes that blink at you. There’s just so much to see here and that’s an absolute treat.

Midwick Manor

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor Midwick Manor Altadena CA

This passionate haunt display excels in lighting and simplicity compared to some of its overcrowded brethren. Showcasing a classy, red and orange lighting scheme with pumpkins lining the roof and planter areas, it is a pleasure to see. While not as impressive or technologically savvy as some others, it could inspire those wanting to showcase a more refined and less horror focused Halloween yard display.

The Ghoulie Graveyard

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor The Ghoulie Graveyard Hawthorne CA

By Alyssa Concha: The Ghoulie Graveyard is a fun cemetery display in Hawthorne, CA. The Graves depict classic Horror Characters with the stones themed to match the character. The Graves were beautifully lit and some even included animatronics.

The Haunted Shack

LA Yard Haunt Displays, Halloween Yard Displays Los Angeles Valley Haunting Drive By Community Home Haunt Socially Distanced Outdoor haunted shack Torrance CA

The haunted shack has created a replica of stranger things’ Starcourt mall complete with projected animations and an animatronic “Mind Flayer”. While unable to put on their traditional walk though maze, haunted shack still delights. Here you can stand under the claws of the Mind Flayer, basking in red light as it makes it way into your mind. The effect is augmented by plenty of fog as a deep and ominous voice thanks you for coming. It’s a creative and culturally relevant take on the yard haunt. Signs are posted reminding attendees to observe Covid guidelines and donations are accepted.

Silver Shadows Cemetery

By Alyssa Concha: Silver Shadows Cemetery is a wonderfully detailed skeletal display. The skeletons have made themselves at home in the yard, climbing trees, hanging off the custom coffin mailbox, and one even enjoying a beer. Angelic, ghostly skeletons hang from the trees and hedges and jack-o-lanterns line the edge of the driveway.
