The Haunted Harvest Brings Animatronics to Life with Goredy’s
The Haunted Harvest offers a unique and immersive Halloween experience in Southern California, centered around a sprawling corn maze. Located in Corona, this attraction can take up to 20 minutes to navigate, providing ample opportunity for scares and surprises. The creators, known for their previous work on the acclaimed Perdition Home Haunt, have designed the experience to contrast the walled horrors of six individual haunted houses (including the new Goredy’s) with the vast unknown of a two-acre corn-maze.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the clever and nostalgic “No More Late Fees 2,” a reimagined video store dubbed Hauntbuster Video. This entrance area serves as a humorous and engaging prelude to the horrors that await. Similar in concept to the popular Slashback Video, Hauntbuster Video is a treasure trove of horror movie references and Easter eggs that will delight genre fans. The attention to detail in recreating a 90s-era video rental store, complete with VHS tapes and movie posters, sets a playful tone that contrasts effectively with the scares to come.
As visitors exit the video store, they find themselves plunged into the heart of the attraction: the corn maze. The experience of being lost among towering cornstalks under the night sky is both thrilling and disorienting, a rarity in Southern California. The maze’s designers have expertly utilized this unique setting, with actors concealed within the corn, shaking cans and ringing bells to create an atmosphere of constant, unseen threat. This auditory element adds a layer of psychological terror, as guests never know when or where the next scare will come from. The corn maze proves to be the perfect backdrop for frights, playing on primal fears of being lost and pursued.
Interspersed throughout the corn maze are several themed haunted houses, each offering its own distinct flavor of fear. “Brujeria” delves into dark magic and witchcraft, while the “House of Jack” presents a twisted take on childhood nursery rhymes. “XXXmas” subverts holiday cheer with nightmarish versions of familiar Christmas themes. “Maniacs” explores the depths of human depravity, and “Goredy’s” brings animatronics to terrifying life. Each house is meticulously designed, with impressive set pieces and committed actors who fully embody their roles, ensuring a different scare experience in each section.
The newest addition to The Haunted Harvest, Goredy’s, draws inspiration from the popular Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. Goredy’s brings animatronics to life in a particularly unnerving way, blurring the line between machine and monster. The jerky movements and uncanny valley effect of these robotic terrors create a unique brand of horror that sets this section apart from the more traditional scare tactics employed elsewhere in the attraction.
The Haunted Harvest stands out as a must-visit Halloween attraction for thrill-seekers in Southern California. By combining the expansive, outdoor terror of a corn maze with the focused frights of themed haunted houses, it offers a diverse and comprehensive scare experience. The attention to detail, from the nostalgic entrance (each one is unique to the haunt inside) to the varied themes of each house, demonstrates the creators’ passion for the craft of fear. Whether you’re a hardcore haunt enthusiast or a casual fan looking for seasonal thrills, The Haunted Harvest delivers a memorable night of scares, laughs, and adrenaline-pumping excitement. It’s highly recommended for anyone seeking a unique and immersive Halloween experience that goes beyond the typical haunted house fare.
