Dr. Jorg’s Lab by Infinity Escape Challenges us to Save The World from a Pandemic
We’ve all had enough of global pandemics. So, when I heard of Edward Grimm and his necro virus, I definitely wasn’t going to let it ruin another year of my life. Especially if it threatens to turn us all into flesh-eating zombies. General Howthorne has recruited me and my team because, well, we’re the best damn CIA operatives in the world. We’ve located Grimm’s secret base in the costal area of Orange County, California; and now we’re ready to stop Grimm and contain the zombies before they infect the world. We’ve come to Infinity Escapes to play Dr. Jorg’s Lab .
Dr. Jorg’s Lab is the first escape room by the tech-savvy Infinity Escape, the precursor to their The Magic Cottage: Sister’s Curse. This room boasts some incredibly life-like animatronics, clever puzzles, and a narrative that leaves you on the edge of your seat—or edge of your lab chair. While this escape room contains no actors, it relies on pre-recorded scenes and in-room clues to convey its narrative—and its many zombies to provide the scares. Although horror themed, this room would be appropriate for even the scaredy-cats in your group: there’s no claustrophobia, darkness, or contact—just a jump scare or two.
As hinted at above, Dr. Jorg’s Lab is a zombie themed laboratory. As such, the room is filled with numerous corpses, some fully dead, others ready to wiggle, twist, or even chatter at you. You and your friends are CIA operatives tasked with infiltrating Dr. Jorg’s lab to stop the evil Dr. Edward Grimm, who is threatening the world with the necro virus developed there. While the other doctor’s may not have survived the initial insanity of Dr. Grimm, Dr. Jorg has, and it’s his helpful hints that propel you forward and allow you to contain the virus—or die trying.
Yet, your job isn’t as easy as it sounds. Dr. Grimm has set up numerous traps and puzzles to impede your progress. He’s also very present, providing some great one-liners, jabs, and insults to throw at your group as you try to thwart him. It’s this interaction between your team, Dr. Grimm, and Dr. Jorg that provide the heart of this experience. Much like the two sisters in The Magic Cottage, these two scientists play against each other wonderfully, providing some great lines that keep tensions high and provide the room a feel of high stakes. The acting is superb and watching Dr. Grimm, as insanity takes over, is a real treat—I only wish I could have seen him meet his demise by the end.
The sets in Dr. Jorg’s Lab may not be as breathtaking as The Magic Cottage (that is still one of our favorite escape rooms), but the room has some real technological wonders and true marvels in it. As a lab, you’ll find a microscope, beakers full of various chemicals, toxic waste barrels, computers, and, zombies. Lots of zombies. This doesn’t just include a few fake dummies—no, these are fully sculpted bodies modeled after the various medical staff of the lab (check out their ID tags, you may recognize one or two). The zombies look incredible, and their movements (when they move) is what really separate this room from others with zombie themes. But it doesn’t stop there. There are disembodied heads in fish tanks, hands with electrodes in them, and other experiments that just show you how state-of-the-art this lab really is.
It’s not just the zombies that are a marvel, the puzzles have some innovative and clever elements too. You will have to think like a scientist as you collect test tubes, samples, ID tags, and use lasers to overcome Dr. Grimm. And as you progress, you may have to think a bit more like a zombie, using severed body parts to bypass retinal scans or fingerprint locks. These all fit the theme wonderfully, and again, the technology is always top notch at Infinity Escape. Further, some puzzles can be solved at the same time, but the majority of the puzzles do follow a linear path, so we recommend doing this room in a smaller group from two to five.
The room has a wonderful sense of humor and awareness too. Video game fans may find references to some of their favorite zombie games out there—from The Last of Us to the Fallout series. There’s also a clever sign that says I love Nuclear Fission with a picture of a fish—a clever nod to Nuclear “fishing” that you may have to do. It’s little details like this that just show the love these creators have for their room.
We’d love to see this room get expanded in the future, with the narrative being further expanded and some of the puzzles being expanded. The creative team hinted that they may have time to do this following the unveiling of their next room—and we may see puzzles such as connecting electrodes to zombie brains to complete actions. We’re hardly able to restrain ourselves in our excitement for that.
Dr. Jorg’s Lab by Infinity Escape is our favorite zombie themed escaped room. It combines technology, animatronics, and a beautiful set with a strong narrative to create a memorable and immersive experience. The zombies are so life-like that they can be frightening, but the room can be experienced by all level of horror-fan. Expect some minor jump scares, but nothing on the level of Escapade’s Zoe. This is a fantastic addition to your escape room list and perfect for the Halloween season. Book now, for you don’t want Dr. Grimm to start another pandemic, now do you? Dr. Jorg’s Lab is a fun escape room filled with horrific zombies.
