Some of the latest home consoles have been pressing the gaming option without a disc – without any physical component. Obviously, when it comes to PCs and digital storefronts like Steam, the idea of an entirely digital gaming experience is nothing new. Still, when that’s your only option, it can raise both concerns and possibilities.

This means there are three ways to enjoy digital games: console, PC, and mobile. What each of these offers and who they appeal to varies, and the experience across them isn’t as ubiquitous as it might initially seem.

Mobile

Mobile gaming is perhaps the most unique option of the main three and is also the newest. The main advantage of mobile gaming for many people is that it’s a platform they already have access to without needing to buy anymore. Nintendo consoles are much more unique, however, often coming with their own games and specs that are much lower than the other consoles – though with a twist, such as the Switch having a portable mode.

PC

For many people, PC gaming represents the ultimate option. Not only do PC gamers have access to the widest library of games through the various available storefronts, but they can customize their own machine to improve the performance of each title. For those who are hoping to play the best of the best and see them at their best, this can get very expensive. However, for those who are passionate about gaming and PC building, this can become an extension of their hobby.

Even games that are exclusive to other consoles often come to PC. Xbox games often do the same day of release, and PlayStation games tend to take longer, perhaps up to a year or two – though some release on the same day. On the other hand, Nintendo games usually stay locked to their own platform.
